The India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) is the apex institutional mechanism for India’s engagement with Africa. It was established in 2008 and covers the entire gamut of inter-State partnerships in political, security, economic, trade, developmental partnership, cultural and people-to-people relationships.
The Summit has been held three times: IAFS-I in 2008 (New Delhi), IAFS-II in 2011 (Addis Ababa), and IAFS-III in 2015 (New Delhi). IAFS-IV is scheduled to be held in May 2026 in New Delhi.
Invitations for IAFS-IV have been extended to the African Union and African countries. Invitations are also being extended to Africa’s Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and Pan-African and International Organizations. Details.
The theme for IAFS-IV is IA SPIRIT – India Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation
The design reflects the primordial bond between India and Africa—regions once united as a single landmass. This ancient geological connection finds resonance in the present through a shared history of resilience against colonialism and a collective aspiration for a progressive, self-reliant, peaceful, and sustainable future.
At the heart of the logo stands the lion—a powerful symbol of pride, courage, and fearlessness, uniquely native to both India and Africa. The lion serves as an allegory for a shared identity, embodying strength and readiness to seize opportunities in an evolving global landscape.
The color palette subtly reflects the Indian identity while harmonizing with broader African hues. Together, these colors evoke a sense of shared heritage, unity, and enduring partnership, reinforcing the spirit and vision of the summit.
